Named for the historic Great Indian War and Trading Path that once crossed the region, Warriors' Path State Park has long been one of Northeast Tennessee's premier outdoor destinations. Nestled along the shores of Fort Patrick Henry Lake, the 950-acre state park is known for its campground, marina, golf course, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife.
Hidden away on the park's eastern edge is one of the Tri-Cities' most respected mountain bike trail systems, built by riders, for riders, through a long-standing partnership between Tennessee State Parks and the Northeast Tennessee Mountain Bike Association, now known as SORBA Tri-Cities. Much of the original trail construction and ongoing maintenance has been completed by dedicated volunteers, making it a true community-built destination.
Variety is the hallmark of Warriors' Path. Nearly 10 miles of stacked loops create countless route options, allowing riders to customize everything from a quick lunch ride to a challenging technical workout. Each trail has its own personality, seamlessly connecting through a thoughtfully designed network that encourages exploration and repeat visits.
The riding is unapologetically old-school Appalachian cross-country. Expect steep, punchy climbs, narrow bench-cut singletrack, rock gardens, roots, and fast descents that demand focus and reward precise bike handling. Signature trails like Darwin's Revenge, Boneyard, Rock City, and Magic Carpet have earned legendary status among local riders, while numerous alternate lines and connectors keep every lap feeling fresh.
Despite its technical reputation, Warriors' Path is incredibly accessible. Located just minutes from Kingsport, the trailhead feels surprisingly secluded while remaining close to restaurants, lodging, and the park's many amenities. After your ride, it's easy to cool off on the lake, enjoy a picnic, or spend the rest of the day exploring one of Tennessee's most beloved state parks.
Whether you're chasing fast lap times, sharpening your technical skills, or simply looking for another classic East Tennessee singletrack experience, Warriors' Path continues to prove why it has remained a favorite among local mountain bikers for decades.
